Letter from the President:

With great optimism, we are making preparations for the quickly approaching cherry harvest. Everyone is busy taking care of the many things that need to be done prior to our June 1 “ready for harvest” date.  We will be opening the labor camps on June 4th and anticipate harvest will start sometime the following week.  Mother Nature will decide, of course!  Stay tuned ….  This year’s crop looks to be an average size.  Not too many cherries but enough to keep our customers happy.  We are looking forward to seeing all our returning employees and meeting the new ones.  We have a wonderful team here at Orchard View.  Here’s to a safe and successful harvest!  Cherry on!  ~ Brenda Thomas

Food Safety Corner:

Orchard View is committed to providing the best quality fruit to our customers.  We are a leader in the cherry industry and as our company grows so do the expectations of our customers.  This year we are adopting a new audit platform at the packinghouse.  The Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) will require the following changes:

  1. Hairnets will be required in the packing area.  A new hairnet will be necessary each day.

  2. No personal water bottles will be allowed in the packing area. Water will be provided in the packinghouse.

  3. A stricter jewelry policy for the packing area will be enforced.

A few reminders:

  1. All personnel are required to wash their hands with soap and water prior to entering the packing area.  Hand sanitizer is not an acceptable alternative to hand-washing.

  2. All visitors are required to sign in prior to entering the packing area. Please make sure your visitors comply with this requirement.

Your continued support of the Orchard View Food Safety Program is much appreciated!  Thank you Orchard View Team!

Packinghouse Post:

  • The new Unitec front-end and installation is well underway.  A big “Thank You” to the facilities crew for their hard work getting the packing area ready for installation.

  • The facilities crew has also been hard at work getting our labor camp facilities ready for harvest.  There have been a lot of changes this year!

  • Orchard View is working on increasing the availability of internet for our workers living in housing.  We hope to have this project completed by the start of harvest.
